Round 6 Winter 2017

Another bumper crowd came together for a windy Sunday afternoon of riding at Lansdowne. Many of you will have noticed that we’ve had two C grade sign-on sheets in the last couple of weeks due to increasing numbers. Sunday was no different with seventeen riders in C grade alone. Going forward, C grade will be split into two grades called C1 and C2. Some weeks we’ll see them combined, but on weeks where there are excessive entries, they’ll be separated.

17 riders in C grade!
Seventeen riders in C grade!

We’re beginning to see a few riders warming up while waiting for their time trial now that the start lists are posted online. As a result we are seeing them break some long standing PBs. -Start lists and results can be found on the day at the bottom of any ISC web page from your mobile device.

We had a number of schools join the winter competition from last summer including Baulkham Hills North, King Park and Newington Public School. Our recorders have their work cut out for them with our fourth Charlotte to join the winter competition.

Charlotte Hands
New bike and ready to go. How big was your last bike Charlotte?

Freya from last year’s Student Championship made her way up to Sydney from St John the Evangelist High School – Nowra. They happened to be in the area (Illawarra) and thought “why not keep heading north to Sydney?” -Thanks for coming Freya!

New Competitions

Some of you may have noticed that we have introduced the Most Valuable Rider point-score in the results page. We are only ranking the top five riders, but you can still find everyone in the Detailed Results sheet.

Remember, when riders are graded by ability, they all have a chance. The best way to make your way to the top 5 is to keep aiming for a PB in the time trial each week. -Don’t go easy in the TT (and miss out on 10 points) just to improve your position in the scratch and handicap by one or two places. -Each place is only worth one extra point. The TT is where the big points are.

Over the coming week or so, you will see a “Coach of the Year” point-score added to the results page. Please nominate your child’s coach* if I have not already approached you.

A coach is considered any qualified coach, teacher or parent. -Most importantly, the person you choose should be the person who is the biggest cycling influence to your young rider.

Cycology Riders of the Week:
Primary: Lucas H – St Kevin’s Primary

Lucas had a tremendous ride and claimed his first win in the scratch event. Kyle missed a rounds three and four and has been trying to find his groove in rounds five and six against a really strong A grade. This week he managed to start from the chopping block and make it half way into a large field. -Keep it up Kyle.
