Round 5 Winter 2017

We found ourselves heading out to Heffron Park for ISC’s first visit to the eastern suburbs on Sunday. It was great to see so many people out and about on bikes while we were setting up the course.

We had great numbers considering so many factors working against us including the patchy weather, long weekend distractions, and having to push people out of their geographical comfort zone. Surprisingly it only took us thirty seven minutes to reach Maroubra from Concord West. -I think Sunday afternoons is the only time when there is a chance to find traffic moving.

A few more schools joined the competition including The Kings School (P-6) and Maroubra Bay Public School. Also, we can’t forget Rhys who came up from Sturt Public School, 450km away, to join his cousins. -I now feel a little embarrassed that we packed snacks and made the kids go to the bathroom before leaving Concord West.

Despite the patchy weather, everyone seemed to enjoy the afternoon while the kids put in some good racing. The kids were relieved to find the relatively flat course was easier than Lansdowne from a climbing point of view, but still took a bit of skill to hit a few of the corners at speed without the assistance of a banked surface.

It was great to see local rider Adelaide, from Maroubra Bay Public School out there looking very cute with big smiles every time she was on the course.

Rider of the Week

Cycology Riders of the Week:
Primary: Jemma
Secondary: Max

Jemma has been working her way to the back of the TT line. She is now behind all the primary school kids and starting to chip away at the high school kids. -Well done Jemma.

Max showed great determination to work his way towards the front of the handicap race. Four out of the first five riders in the A/B handicap were from the early waves, suggesting that the handicap favoured the early waves. Despite this, Max was the only rider from the last wave to make his way into the top five to take third.

Personal Best

Everyone in attendance set their benchmark at Heffron and hence their PB. -Lets see if they can beat it when they return on August 6.
