The School Cups were awarded on Sunday at the last round of the series.
Primary Schools Cup
Northmead Public School almost doubled the point-score of their nearest rival Concord West. They started the competition midway into the season, but still managed to dominate by their second week. They had riders in three out of four grades and always dominated in the results.
The top five Primary Schools were:
2716 – Northmead Public School
1533 – Concord West Public School
888 – Eastwood Heights Public School
879 – Russell Lea Infants’ School
821 – St John Vianni – Doonside
Secondary Schools Cup
Its a very similar story for William Clarke College. They started mid season with a strong point-score. They featured regularly in the weekly results with riders spread across multiple grades and managed to take the lead after a few weeks although Knox Grammar was not making it easy for them with the lead changing a couple of times
The top five Secondary Schools were:
1093 – William Clarke College
875 – Knox Grammar School
503 – Rosebank College
485 – Burwood Girls High School
430 – St Mary’s Cathedral – Sydney
Congratulations to all the kids who participated from every school. It was a great series and you all contributed to a fun atmosphere.
Both the winning schools and a number of others in the top ten are under the guidance of Robyn Low-Hart from Active8 Training. Well done Robyn.
The competition has been about enabling kids to enter the sport of cycling at any age, and give them a place to develop their skills regardless of their initial ability, strength and fitness while having fun along the way.
Here are some notable achievements from the series:
- Over forty schools took part.
- Currently the largest regular junior cycling event in NSW.
- We started with an unrealistically high rider limit on our insurance. Before the year was out, we had to call the insurers to increase the number of riders insured.
- Over 50% female participation.
- Most riders started with minimal cycling experience.
- Those riders with cycling experience came from seven clubs throughout Sydney.
Thankyou to all the riders for a great competition, and thank you to all the parents who help to keep the events running every week.
